This is arguably one of the most interesting cars of the era, because the Fairlanes had one of the most substantial styles going. They were revised for 1965, and the tall/sharp fenders, flatter front end, tall grille, and quad headlights made this intermediate-sized Ford look like the close sibling of the full-size Chrysler Imperial. So when you can look large and premium, it's always going to make a nice first impression. The paint is an older respray, and so it has the aged look that we kinda like. Everyone else can just take the value price to leave room in your budget to put your own personal touch on the finish. Besides what's really impressive is that this hardtop is quite clean and complete with bright chrome bumpers, full-length trim, proper Ford wheel covers, and all the right badging in place.
The interior continues this car's sea of blue. There are nice classic details, like the two-tone seats with button-top presentation. And while this has a true vintage style, they specifically upgraded this to an AM/FM/CD player w/aux input and stereo speakers. So this is the one where you get to roll down all the windows on the pillarless hardtop and crank up your favorite all-day driving music.
Another reason this is such a great driver is because of what's under the hood. We know Ford's 289 cubic-inch V8 to be one of the best around at delivering consistent power. And it's plenty hardy to handle upgrades like the Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock Performer intake. It fires up nicely and makes a sweet tune out of the upgraded H-pipe dual exhaust. There are also nice supporting components, like dual-circuit master cylinder brakes. And because this loves being a great driver, you have good features like power steering, a three-speed automatic transmission, and good cruising tires.
