For sale is my 1974 MG MGB GT.

1.8 liter, inline 4.
4 speed, no overdrive.
62,957 miles, which I believe is the true mileage.

It is an early 1974, last of the chrome bumpers. The GTs accounted for only 25% or so of MGB production. The addition of a roof to the roadster was a Pininfarina design.

I have owned this GT since May of 2019. I had wanted a GT for years and hoped to enjoy this car more than I’ve been able to in the last year and a half. I’m selling to try and reduce my collection a bit
I bought the GT from an older gentleman near Asheville who was an MG and British car enthusiast. He had purchased the car from a friend in 2015 who had kept the car in storage since 1984 (The first thing I did with the car was replace the 1983 Goodyear Eagle GT tires that were still on it). While this gentleman had it, it got the car running and driving again, but only drove it on the road he lived on.
Here is a list of maintenance and parts that have been replaced since I’ve had the car:

Wheels and Suspension:
General Altimax tires installed (including spare)
Replaced axel straps on rear axle
Fuel System:

Replaced fuel pump
Replaced leaking lines around fuel pump
Replaced fuel tank with the 16-gallon touring tank from Moss Motors
Fuel gauge sending unit

Brake System:
TRW/Lucas brake master cylinder
Rear wheel brake cylinders, left and right sides
Rear brake drums and shoes, left and right sides
Replaced leaking brake lines

Ignition System:
PerTronix electronic ignition conversion including rotor, cap, and wires
Vacuum advance
Ignition switch assembly
Starter relay
Intermotor “gold” ignition coil
Radiator cap
Oil drain plug
NGK spark plugs

Overall, the GT is in better shape and much more road worthy than when I acquired it, but there’s still somethings that I’d recommend taking care of before I’d call it a “reliable” driver quality car. Well, reliable in the context of a ‘70s British sports car, that is. As far as rust goes, there is some surface rust in some spots but no rust serious enough to affect integrity. Floors and rockers are still solid. The pictures in the ad should indicate the condition appropriately.

Drivability Issues:
Ignition switch: Somewhere in the new ignition switch there is a faulty connection that will cause the ignition to turn off. Sometimes you can just restart the car using the key, other times you have bypass the ignition relay under the hood using a short piece of wire. It consistently restarts when using one of these methods.
Steering rack: The front end is currently out of alignment. However, the adjustment for the tie rods is seized up on the steering rack. It doesn’t seriously affect the drivability in the short term, but before the car does any significant amount of touring, the steering rack will need to be replaced to avoid premature tire wear.
Carbs: The carbs are currently running rich and could use an adjustment.

Other Issues:
The car is not completely watertight. If there’s a big rain and the car is outside uncovered, then water will collect under the floor mats and in the spare tire area. There are no rust holes in either spot though. I have the car under a cover currently.
Front brakes are probably due a refresh due to age
Exterior – The car has an old repaint in the original color. The repaint was not a very high quality and most likely DIY. It has runs, a faded area on the rear hatch, and some small chips.
Also, one of the headlights burnt out and there are a couple of signal bulbs that need replacing.

I’m looking for around $7,000 but am open to offers.
