A low mileage classic with less than 95k miles in original condition!

Engine is super clean and runs great!
All old hoses have been completely replaced, original radiator has been re-cored and re-painted.
Bottom frame is in good condition, with minimal rust.
Brand new battery.
Problems are rust on passenger door, rust on seat frames, broken water reservoir for windshield wipers, discoloration of vinyl on inside of sunroof door (but does not leak), speedometer cable stopped working a few years ago, radio console is missing & tires are very old.

Includes second set of powder coated original rims with unused tires at the asking price.

I had about $1,500 worth of work done on it by a BMW specialist in March and he was impressed by how good of shape it was in.

I can show you the receipt, but it says:

Door locks inoperable. (This is not true as they lock and unlock fine with the key)
Speedometer inoperable. (This is true as it broke suddenly several years ago while I was driving it.)
At the time of his examination, the odometer was still working fine, but shortly after leaving the shop it suddenly stopped working.

The tune up he performed was to replace the spark plugs, points, condenser, cap & rotor, set and adjust everything to specs, adjust the valves and replace the gasket.

The repairs that were needed and done were:
-replaced and adjusted the drive belt,
-replaced the bad center link steering rod (which was the only thing in the front suspension that needed work),
-cleaned up engine compartment hoses
-replaced some vacuum hoses, collapsed brake vacuum line, fuses and some hose end clamps
-re-corded original radiator, which was rusted out

I am the 3rd owner, but I was never able to talk to the 2nd owner directly when I bought the car from him; so much of its story was told to me third hand and many parts were unclear.
I took the original owner for a ride and got more details from her.

Barbara (the original owner) bought the car new in 1974 in Pasadena, CA for $2,800.
She then drove it regularly until 1995, but did not put many miles on it because she was working most of the time and had a very short commute. She sometimes would take short trips on the weekends.
During the whole time in Pasadena, she took really good care of it and had regular maintenance done on it by the dealer. She never let anyone smoke or eat in the car.
It was hit slightly in a parking lot at low speed on the back bumper one time but there was no evident impact of this event as the bumper absorbed the impact.
The radiator (which was originally a 2 core type) did not do well enough in the Southern California heat and overheated; so she had it replaced with a 3 core type radiator and had no more trouble after that.
For some reason, there was also a problem with something in the engine and she had the mechanic from the dealership rebuild the engine. Since that time, there has been no more trouble, but she can’t remember exactly when that was done. It was some time before 1995, when she moved north.
In 1995, she began moving north to Mendocino County and drove it on the 1,000 mile trip between LA & Mendocino only a few times because she had gotten a pickup truck which was more useful in her new situation.
From 1995-2005, she only drove the BMW rarely and just for fun and sightseeing in Northern California as her truck was much more suited to the dirt road that she lives on.
During this time, she was storing it under a car cover which apparently leaked without her realizing it. She says that it was during this time that the rust on the inside of the car became apparent.
After that, she started parking it in a barn on her property.

Then in 2005, she broke her leg badly and was unable to drive the car anymore; so she parked it and left it in her barn for many years.

Sometime between 2005 and 2015 (which is when I bought the car), she sold it to our mutual acquaintance who had seen it in her barn and offered her a good price for it. I am guessing that this was about 2012 or 2013.
He is a BMW 2002 lover who already owned several of them in varying stages of repair. He got it running and also must have removed the stereo console to put in another car, because Barbara says it was there and also had a new high end stereo inside of it when she sold it. He had it for a period of time and was planning on doing more work on the car, but had to move back to Germany unexpectedly, which is when he had a friend of his sell off a bunch of his stuff. This is when I bought the car.

I did some basic tune up work and drove it off and on for about a year before my work started keeping me away from home a lot and I decided to park the BMW and put in on non-op status.
It was that way for 2 years, until I put it back in operational status in February of this year and had the recent work done.
I wanted to have a professional look at it and take care of any aged parts that needed replacing.

Since the tune-up and repair, the car is running great and I would describe it best as purring.
