Used 1974 BMW 2002 New Engine, 5 spd for sale in Oceano, CA

1974 BMW 2002 with a new engine and 5 speed conversion. Getrag transmission with short shift kit. Shifts smooth with no grinding or popping out of gear. Conversion kit was from Aardvark Racing.

Smog exempt.

Original blue plate car from Santa Barbara.

Good interior. Kooglewerks under dash speaker panels and center panel for the console. Pioneer PRS-80 audiophile head unit with Focal 5.25 2-way speakers. MOMO wood steering wheel and adaptor. Horn works.

Instrument cluster was fully rebuilt and calibrated by Hollywood Speedometer. (Needle does bounce a little bit.) Refinished 14" Bottle Cap rims with good tires. New OE center caps.

Rebuilt Heater box with new blower motor and fan. (Intermittent fan ground)

Rebuilt front end with new trailing arms and brakes. New painted calipers, new drums, rotors & rubber hoses. I have new trailing arms and center link, but they are not installed. (Will install if needed to seal a deal.)

Lowered stance with all new Eibach springs and shocks. (Bilsteins? Sorry, I can't remember.)

Electrical - everything works (signals, running lights, brake lights, Hi/Lo Beam) except the backup lights and interior dome light.

New Battery.

Car has been painted and has new window and door rubber and window chrome.

The story:

I am an air cooled Volkswagen guy. About 10 years ago I went to look at a Beetle and didn't buy it. On the way home I passed by this car with a for sale sign, and money was burning a hole in my pocket. The kid that owned it had just inherited it from his grandmother and, in short, was a millennial. He didn't care about the car. His grandmother was in her 80's and lived in Santa Barbara, California. I drove it home. A customer at work owned a body shop and convinced me to paint it. He got it all painted, but passed away before it could all be put back together. So, it sat in my garage until I was able to get to it. This was quite a while.

I've gone through ebbs and flows with building this car. It was going to be a track/street car. I used to freelance at 2002Haus and Rob did much of the build, including suspension. I was going to use it to commute to work and it was built to drive to work and to the track. However, my commute changed this year. Needless to say, I've been caretaker long enough and am looking for the next caretaker.

This car turns heads and gets attention every time I drive it. I have taken it to work (50 miles each way) a couple times and it performed flawlessly. I work out of town now, so it doesn't make sense.

I considered saving it for my 14 year old son.and then I thought better.

I still have air cooled VW's that I tend to drive more often than this. However, there is no comparison. The 2002 is everything a VW isn't.
