1988 Volkswagen Scirocco 16V with 5-speed manual transmission and 235K miles. Last year Sciroccos were sold in the US. Clean VA title in hand. Originally sold in Hawaii. I have owned it for 7 years and it’s been driven 40 miles every week during my ownership. Passes VA State Inspection every year with no drama. Very solid runner. Does 75mph+ with no issues. This is an unrestored, honest, driver’s condition Scirocco. Restored versions have been selling for $25K+ on Bring a Trailer.

MECHANICAL;
Engine was rebuilt with a rare Techtonics Tuning 2.0L cylinder head, euro intake cam, and euro exhaust manifold and cams 15+ yrs ago. I have a dyno graph from the time showing 140WHP. Timing belt and cam chain was done 6yrs/11K miles ago. Oil was changed in January. 16V Engine sounds exotic and loves to be revved. Cranks hard and fires up crisply every time with no need to ‘give it some gas’ and extremely minimal cold start issues. Small unidentified oil weap(s) that can’t be measured on the dipstick between oil changes. Deleted A/C with lightweight bracket (still has condenser installed). Sometimes runs a little warm, but includes uninstalled complete silicone coolant hose kit. Muffler is factory style and 5-years old and has a small rattle. New exhaust tip from 2015 Sonata that fits great.

Shift linkage rebuilt with ‘Missing Linkz’ fully adjustable SS linkage and OEM main selector shaft 4 yrs ago. 2 year-old OEM clutch cable with manual adjustment. Neuspeed strut tower brace. Neuspeed springs with 2” lowering and no bump stops. Polyurethane strut tower bushings. There is a suspension rattle in the front right and that corner is quick to bottom out.

EXTERIOR;
Desirable and rare Alpine White with no sunroof. Looks really impressive from 8 feet away. Car was repainted 15+ years ago with shaved body molding and painted B-Pillars. Back bumper has been repainted since. The underside of the hood has some surface rust. One small dent near the passenger roof line. Small spots of sealed up rust under the back windows.

Awesome Centra Type 6 Polished Wheels. 15” Domed style with machined replacement center caps. German made and period correct. Inspired by the bimotor Scirocco. No leaks, cracks, or repairs. Commuter tires that are 3yrs/6K miles old. Also including the original set of Teardrop rims with some failing clearcoat and potentially usable rubber.

Euro Bumpers. US headlights and grille installed, but also comes with Euro headlights (missing a few adjusters), Kamei grille and Kamei brow. White Stripe Euro tail lights from “Scala” and “Whitecat” special editions. Installed as NOS 5 yrs ago, but the left side needed touchup a year ago. Aged original tail lights (black stripes) included. LED Brake lights. 16V Body Kit is in good shape, but not perfect. Missing front fender liners. Volvo front licence plate bracket welded to tow hook. Tow hook can still be used when the front license plate is removed.

INTERIOR;
No smells. ‘Scirocco’ steering wheel is in great shape and also comes with a smaller Momo steering wheel and adapter. Dash is cracked in the common spot above the gauge cluster and warped near the glovebox. Missing some trim under the steering column. Recaro race seats are very comfy and in great shape but one piece of foam is out of place on the driver’s bolster. Headliner has some nicks near the hatch. The door skins have been redone with aftermarket fabric. Rear hatch can let a drip of water in during heavy rain. New rear hatch seals are still available. Rear wiper has been deleted. Missing some factory cargo area trim.

Modern Blaupunkt Radio installed with USB and Bluetooth (CD player inop) with new 4” Blaupunkt speakers in factory locations and JVC self-powered sub under passenger seat.

Comes uninstalled OMP shift knob and an untested triple VDO gauge kit, period correct. Driver’s window is wiggly but works fine. Includes 5 year old Mitsubishi brand space saver spare tire with jack and tools. Heat is very strong. Power mirrors inop but motors get power. Includes good condition Bentley repair manual and service records from 1997 onwards.
