This LaSalle makes a lasting impression with a long, pointed hood and rounded trunk that epitomizes the era. Aerodynamics were making the cars sleeker every year, so the raked windshield and curvaceous fenders are as functional as they are handsome. The same goes for the bullet-shaped headlights. Plus, the tall, narrow grille leading the way had become a LaSalle hallmark. So yes, this really caarries the best of an authentic vintage presentation, right down to the correct hubcaps and iconic whitewalls. Even the paint is a lacquer finish, and it has aged in correctly. So while the deep and glossy green is an upgrade over the factory beige, there are going to be plenty of people who will just assume they are looking at a nearly 85-year-old factory application.
Luxury in a '30s car was all about going broad - broad doors, broad space, and broadcloth. The interior looks and feels like it was updated during the car's lifetime, and main areas like the headliner and carpeting look new, but the nothing about it feels out of place for the 1930s. The rear seat has adult level room, and everyone loves the look of suicide doors. Up front, the dash has an art deco style and a very symmetrical look. The large steering wheel with LaSalle center cap and tall floor shifter are all there to make sure this feels like a rolling time capsule.
The only engine available in your LaSalle was a slightly downsized version of the Cadillac L-head V8. But smaller doesn't mean small, and so this 322 cubic-inch motor was still the envy of big-time movers. This one keeps with this car's full authentic presentation, right down to the generator. These were hardy motors that would go on to power WWII tanks, and so this robust powerhouse remains a terrific runner today. It's backed by a three-speed manual transmission that has a smooth action so that you can get the most out of the V8 without taking away from the classic luxury driving nature.
