I'm parting ways with my van! Why?
I had more fun building it than using it!
The van itself:
2015 Ford Transit 250, RWD, V6, Low Roof.
Up to date on everything (including a recent Ford recall). It doesn't need breaks for another 10-15K miles and got an oil change about 1.5K miles or so. I have two sets of tires for it: 1) 3 seasons, plenty of thread left, 2) studded, snow tires with only ~3K miles on them; I also have chains for all 4 tires. For me, it's safety first when it comes to driving a van in the winter. Otherwise, there's minimal wear and tear on the outside and the inside of the van, including the engine! I had a mechanic from YourMechanic.com check it out before I bought it. I even treated internal scratches with rust resistant paint before doing the build to avoid any future issues whatsoever. Lots of planning went into taking good care of the van and I've driven it out to CA twice with no engine/drivetrain issues. The only thing that needs fixing is a sliding door sensor; which has a work around (i'll explain when you come see it).
The build / included:
- Hard foam and spray foam insulation behind the stained wooden panel walls.
- Peel and stick, water resistant flooring with metal guards on the steps.
- Benches that double as storage units.
- Queen sized bed that sleeps two; converts into a table and can seat up to 4 comfortably for a camping game night.
- Electrical:
- 2x 100 Watt Renogy solar panels
- Renogy charge controller
- Battle Born LifePO4 DEEP Cycle Lithium Ion Battery; 100 Amp hours
- Xantrex PROWatt 2000 inverter
- String lights that set a nice mood!
- Maxxair ceiling fan with adjustable speeds
- Kitchenette cabinet
- 2 inch hitch (installed; after market)
- Cleaning brush (useful when it gets dusty at your camping spot)
- Window covers for insulation and privacy (Reflectix)
- Tool kit for any on the go needs
The electrical system really kicks ass; running the fan all night barely eats into the battery and it charges quickly in the morning.
