Used Camper Van for sale in Tacoma, WA

Vehicle Description

Up for sale is our beautiful camper van! My wife and I did all of the conversion ourselves and the end product is pretty spectacular. We lived in this full time over the winter with our six month old baby. Let me tell ya.it’s still the size of a van but damn is it a comfortable set up for hanging out in. We’ve previously lived in vans and buses so we really dialed this thing in to be exactly what we wanted out of a van home. It has a really wonderful balance between functionality, aesthetic beauty, and, of course, comfort. The vehicle is a 1985 Chevy G20 in very good condition! We’ve had a ton of fun with this thing and we’re excited for the future owners to enjoy it and adventure with it like we have. We just got done sprucing it up so she’s ready to go.

Btw.We’re reposting it at a significantly lower price. We spent some time holding the van for potential buyers that ended up not being able to purchase it. So we do apologize if you reached out and didn’t get a response! Anyway, we’re motivated to sell the van since we are about to do some traveling ourselves and would like to sell it before we head out :)

On to the details…

The conversion:
- This isn’t just a van build.this is a beautiful work of art that can be lived in.
- Aromatic tongue and groove cedar ceiling/walls. There’s nothing like being surrounded by natural wood grain. Such a cozy feel and wonderful scent.
- Sectional style couch. When we’ve lived out of vans before we always end up spending a lot of our time outside. When we’re in the van we’ve found that what we most desire is a comfy place to sit back and chill. So we designed it around this idea of comfort first. And so it’s got a big wrap around couch that is extremely comfy.
- Queen size memory foam mattress. Yes that’s right the couch pulls out into a queen size bed!
- Mini wood stove. This is probably my favorite part of the whole build. It completely changed vanlife for us. Since we were traveling through the winter we encountered snow, rainstorms, subfreezing temperatures. This thing kept us warm and toasty every night! AND there were no condensation issues common to vehicle living during the winter. If there is one thing that makes year round travel in a van possible, it is this wood stove.
- Awesome privacy curtains that easily roll down to cover each window.
- 14 gallons of onboard freshwater accessible through a hand pump. Simple, efficient design.
- Storage galore! So many unique nooks for storage. You gotta see it all to understand just how much storage there is for gear, food, clothes, etc.
- Clip in table for cooking, creating, work, etc.
- Swivel passenger seat makes the space even bigger when parked!
- Solar powered exhaust/intake fan.
- Butane cook stove. We opted for portable instead of built in to give us the flexibility to cook indoors or outdoors.
- Insulated walls and ceiling.
- There’s so much more to it than words can fully describe. Being inside this van at night with a fire lit and food cooking on the stove is dreamy. It honestly feels like a fort I would have dreamed up as a kid.

The vehicle:
- 1985 Chevy G20 Van. We purchased it from the original owner's grandchild, who received it after their grandpa passed away. So it was in one family up until last
September when we bought it. There’s a big packet of maintenance records/receipts. This van was well cared for before we found it. And we’ve continued care with regular maintenance.
- 165,000 original miles! Very low miles for a van of this age and it still has so much life left in it.
- 5.0 liter engine. Known to be very reliable.
- Automatic transmission. This thing honestly shifts smoother than many of the much newer vehicles I’ve owned. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I took it to highway speeds.
- Almost new all terrain tires with about 5,000 miles on em’. I was surprised at how much traction these provide. One night we got unexpectedly snowed on near Bend and we were able to drive up a steep snow covered hill no problem to get back to the main road the next morning.
- Brand new heater core. Yeah.our heat went out while we were out on the road. Not fun to drive around without heat for a while. But I replaced it so it’s ready to go for a long long time.
- Bluetooth stereo.
- Fully sealed gutter track. A common leak spot on these vans is the gutter. And this one leaked a little when we first got it so we resealed the entire thing so she’s leak proof.

A few side effects of this being a 1985 van.I’ve taken these things into account and priced the van accordingly:
- The windshield is cracked pretty badly. We had a big tree branch come down on us during a windstorm and it cracked the windshield. Still totally drivable but worth noting.
- The oil pan gasket leaks oil. We just made sure to keep the oil topped off but the gasket should be replaced at some point.
- The paint is chipped in spots.
- Overall, please don’t expect this to be a 7 year old vehicle with 40k miles on it. This is a 36 year old well cared for van. People tend to think of vehicles as strictly mechanical. But that isn’t entirely true. I’ve found that wherever you put a little love you get love back. Including vans :) believe in her and she’ll believe in you.

If you keep your eyes open you’ll notice that of the 80’s vans still on the road they are almost exclusively Chevy’s. Just like Mercedes has that special ingredient these days in their Sprinter.Chevy had it in the 80’s. This is a super reliable and trip ready tiny house/adventure mobile just waiting to see the world!

Let me be honest to those who may be considering a more nomadic lifestyle. If you’re looking for happiness or a better life, traveling in a van is not enough in itself. Life is still life and finding peace seems to be more of a journey of untangling what’s inside rather than altering what’s outside. But, having lived on and off nomadically for three years now I’ll put it like this: If one wants to swim, it’s not enough to jump in a lake. You still have to use your body and learn to swim. But I’m pretty sure you’ll never learn to swim if you never get off land. All we can do in this life is try to give ourselves the soil we need to thrive. The act of opening ourselves up to new things is beautiful. It allows us to get that magic flowing and find what we truly desire. I really hope this van finds the right person to assist in experiencing greatness. Whether that be for weekend adventures or full blown vanlife, you will not regret the actions you take to see the world and learn more about yourself and others through diverse life experiences. A huge perk of buying this van is that you’ll be simultaneously opening a door to adventure with your own life and financially supporting our family’s next adventure. But, even if this van is out of your budget, I highly encourage you to get out and see the world. People are doing it with as little as a backpack, tent, and sleeping bag. It can seem daunting, scary, or impossible but I assure you it isn’t. And there will be a moment when you’re sitting under the stars on a warm summer night.you’ll see one shoot across the sky and you’ll feel the magic of life. And you’ll remember reading this and you’ll know you did the right thing. It’s your life and you deserve to live it.
