Used BMW 635csi 1986 5 speed 6 cylinder for sale in Spokane, WA

For sale: my 1986 BMW 635csi. This car is located in Spokane, WA. It is my daily driver 3 seasons of the year. I have been changing/refreshing systems during the winter months so that I can have the car on the road as much as possible during the driving seasons. I think of it as a GT, not an autocross car, and have been building it out with that in mind.

I switched the air-dam to a 633 style valance; I will include the 635 air dam that came with the car.

The winter before this last one, I swapped the automatic transmission for a Getrag 260 5-speed manual, which necessitated all new clutch parts, an aluminum flywheel and a new pedal bracket to accommodate the clutch pedal. When I bought the used transmission, the person was clearing out their 635csi parts and didn't want to sell it separate from a m30b34 engine he had picked up from a wrecked 635. He said it had about 135K mi on it. I bought the transmission and engine, and since I now had a spare motor, I ran a leak-down test on it (the engine was cold on an engine stand- yes, I'd rather run the test on a warm engine, but that wasn't possible), and it should 94-96% across the 6 cylinders. Encouraged, I then pulled the head and found no warping of the head, no cylinder lip from bore wear, and could see a lot of cross-hatching on the cylinder walls. The bottom end also looked good (I did not pull the crank out), as did the timing gear's teeth. I installed a complete gasket kit, replaced the crank seals, replaced the head bolts, replaced the timing chain's guides, tensioner and spring, and replaced the water pump, thermostat, and cap and rotor. I had the fuel injectors rebuilt by Mr. Injector’s Fuel Injector service (his website gives a full description). I also installed a rebuild kit for the power-steering pump. The original engine and automatic transmission will come with the car, along with a lot of bits and pieces that go with them. There are quite a few other items I’ve replaced that are normal replacement items, such as the intake boot, ICV, radiator, some relays, etc. The tires are less than 2 months old and have less than 500 miles on them.

The winter previous to that I replaced the suspension system with a Bilstein Sport shocks and H&R Sport springs kit. You can adjust the ride height with this kit by moving a collar on the struts. I also installed a 16-piece Lemforder control arms and bushings kit, which includes new control arms and ball joint assemblies, suspension stabilizer bar links, steering tie rod end assemblies, steering center link, subframe bushings, suspension trailing arm supports, and steering idler arm.

I have done some things to change the look of the car, but they can be undone easily enough: I already mentioned the front valance. I changed the seats out for a pair from an early 2000s BMW. The electric controls are on the sides of the seats; the switches for the original seats are still in-place but not hooked up. I have the original seats, but they are in bad shape. I changed the 15” wheels for some more modern 18” BMW wheels. I have the 15” wheels that will go with the car, along with the front air dam- the last photo shows the car with the 15" rims and the 635 air dam.

The paint looks good from 5 feet (that’s about the distance in the photos), but up-close there are nicks from road wear, and the respray seems to be a very cheap, rushed job. The worst place in the paint is on the passenger door—the paint is chipping, about the size of a quarter and it is cracking in a spider web shape. There is surface rust where it has chipped. I picked up 2 doors that are in pristine shape but are black- they were sold as a pair. I bought the doors and a bumper from another person who was thinning out his parts collection. I have worked quite a few 1960s American cars and am paranoid when I see paint issues, so I bought these doors when I had the chance for little money. I believe the paint issues on this car all stem from a very cheap respray with next to no prep-work done (there is over spray underneath the hood and on the bottoms of the bumpers, drips in the trunk rain gutter the aren't visible when the trunk it closed, etc). I bought the bumper because I had thoughts of sectioning and welding the two bumpers into one so that the aluminum wrapped around the side instead of the black rubber. I wanted to get a more streamlined look somewhere between the American large bumper and the European (aka World) small bumper.

All of the parts I have for this car will need to go with this car. The reason I am selling is I happened upon a 1969 Buick Riviera for $500. After spending this winter welding in floor patches, converting to front disc brakes, modernizing the wiring, and replacing the steering column, my interest is firmly in getting this land-yacht back on the road.
