*Resellers don’t really know the condition of the cars and usually have the same background in every picture. So if the background is the same in a few vehicles then they are resellers.

I Test drove it and ran a carfax (carfax.com) history report on it. The report says potential odometer rolled over, so the miles were changed from 200,000+ to 126K. It also says it was a total loss vehicle. The older man who showed it to me said he had a duplicate title and that it belonged to a family member. I’m posting this up to warn people and save them their hard earned money.
I’ve been looking for a vehicle for my wife for a few months now and it seems like there are more of these shady vehicles around and more people selling them, likely bought from auto auctions.

Tips when buying/selling a car:
1. Don’t sell to a reseller or dealer buyer. They could change the mileage. Buy ONLY from the person who’s name is on the title. Otherwise you will have no legal recourse if you get scammed. Sell/buy ONLY from private party with legit drivers license or ID and make sure they write AND sign their personal names in pen on the title transfer section of the car’s title (also on the back). Double check the info they input in the pink slip matches their driver license. Take a picture of their license or write it down (for liability purposes).
2. Honest people don’t have anything to hide, so ask them for the VIN (vehicle identification number). This # is a one of a kind car I.D. that is tracked by dmv and other companies (dealers, auto shops etc that sell history reports). It’s like the car’s SS#. If the seller is unwilling then that’s the first sign to stay away because they know you’ll find out the truth about the vehicle. Also, the VIN number is located inside the driver’s door where it latches or in the dash in front of driver.
3. When buying, besides test drive and other common sense things to check, ask specific questions:
Is the title clean and in your name?
How long have you owned it?
Why are you selling it?
Is there anything mechanically wrong with the vehicle or have their been any codes in the dashboard within the last week/days or so? (Sometimes an engine code comes on the dash and they unplug the battery to erase it then it turns on a few days later.it’s shady I know)
Once you feel like you would like to buy the car run the carfax report and compare their answers.
4. If you’re willing, warn others by posting about the car and discrepancies. I think if we do it more often then maybe it will discourage this practice.

Fui a ver este vehículo y decidí ver su historial por medio de carfax (carfax.com) el reporte dice que probablemente le cambiaron las millas de 200,000+ a 126K. También dice que estuvo en un accidente en el cual fue designado como pérdida total. La persona que lo está vendiendo dijo que tiene título duplicado y que le pertenecía a un miembro de su familia. Pero el reporte demuestra lo contrario. Estoy escribiendo este anuncio como advertencia para que no sean engañados o gasten su dinero.
He estado buscando un vehículo para mi esposa ya por varios meses y parece ser que mucha gente esta vendiendo estos tipos de vehículos. Probablemente los compran en subastas.

Consejo para cuando compren or vendan un vehículo:
1. No lo compres de un revendedor. Le pueden cambiar las millas. Protégete legalmente y Compra el carro de la persona que tenga el título a su nombre o que esa persona esté presente con su identificación. Compra un vehículo de los dueños con licencia de manejo ó ID. Asegúrate de que al transferir el titulo y al llenar las porciones del título que le correspondan al comprador que su información concuerde con la información en su licencia ó ID, osea, que la información sea igual. Compara la información que llenaron en el título o porción de transferencia de nuevo dueño con su licencia ó ID. Tómale una foto a su retrato de su ID.
2. La gente honesta no tiene que esconder la verdad. Pide el número de VIN (número de identification de Vehículo) si no te lo dan probablemente están escondiendo algo del vehículo. Este número es usado por el DMV y otras empresas (carfax, industria automotriz) para seguir el historial del vehículo. Si el dueño no te lo da entonces no lo compres. El VIN está localizado en varias partes del carro pero mas fácilmente puede verse dentro de la puerta del lado del chofer.
3. Al comprar un carro, y después de manejarlo y revisar lo que comúnmente se revisa, haga preguntas específicas:
¿El título es limpio y en su nombre?
¿Por Cuanto tiempo ha sido usted el dueño?
¿Por qué lo estás vendiendo?
¿Tiene algún problema mecánico ó se la ha prendido alguna luz o código recientemente, hace unas semanas ó días? (A veces un código/luz se le prende y le desconectan la pila para borrar la luz y luego venden el coche y la luz se prende después al nuevo dueño). Si estas convencido que quieres comprar el carro entonces compra su reporte historial en carfax.com y compara la información del reporte con lo que te han dicho del coche.
4. Si quieres reporta al carro y vendedor en Craigslist (cómo este anuncio) pero solo menciona los hechos del reporte sin insultar a la persona. Si los reportamos, tal vez dejen de hacerlo.
