Anyway, I pondered this feedback on my offering price as I went to sleep last night, and then awoke with a clear realization: he's right. I feel kind of bad for myself for buying it, now that I think of it. I had cleverly negotiated the price down to $3,200 when I bought it, thinking I was getting a steal. Crafty me. In my defense, it does run very nicely, albeit pretty loudly, and I was probably subconsciously influenced by the long ago memory of my first, ahem, adult experience, which took place in a near identical car. After that, I put some money into it. (New front tires, checking the wiring, a roll of duct tape to cover up various imperfections, and, optimist and fool that I am, three, yes three, "The Club" devices -one to lock the steering wheel, one to lock the clutch, and one, I swear, to put on the front tire, a la a Denver Boot. See attached photo. ) Let me note here that all these three are generously included in the purchase price to whichever lucky individual forks over their hard earned money for this car.
I don't think I was being dishonest in my previous ad. I clearly laid out all of the safety defects, and wrote, and I quote: "I am selling this as is, meaning that if you buy it and the car konks out the next day, or you get a tire blowout and the car ends up in flames, that is your problem, not mine. Just want to be clear on that." So, me being a Bernie supporter and all, the implied criticism about my making a "dang nice profit" from the above mentioned message stung a little bit, but I guess the truth hurts. Guilt from my religious upbringing has kicked in, and I am offering this old and imperfect bug, which I still insist is a fine example of quality engineering and practicality, and on top of that, so there, I think that any car which still runs after 57 years is pretty good, and I wish I could say the same about myself, now that I come to think about it, for $3,800, which comes out to what I paid for it, plus the money to get license plates and all of the other things mentioned above. Though it pains me to write this, I guess the price is negotiable, since I guess somebody else shouldn't have to pay for my being an idiot, as someone very close and dear to me recently opined.
