Vehicle Description
I bought the truck primarily to tow my 5th wheel and as a backup work truck. I have put about 1-2 thousand miles on the truck since purchasing with no issues until last week, when pulling trailer I lost power and pulled over to shoulder and truck stalled. It turned over several times, then wouldn't crank over any more. I had it towed to Ford dealer, and they basically did nothing except try turn the key and said it doesn't crank/turn over the engine must be seized and offered to replace engine. I am not 100% certain of this, as they couldn't tell me anything that they did, tested, removed, checked, so basically they are just trying to sell me installation of new crate long block engine for $11K that would come with 3 year unlimited mile warranty. I had another diesel mechanic tell me it could be ac compressor locked up and said if its not that he would recommend putting in short bock which would cost around $8K.
Regardless they say parts are back ordered with Ford right now and the soonest the truck could be back on the road would be 2-3 months and I cannot wait that long to fix truck, so I will likely buy newer lower millage truck in the next 1-2 weeks. I am also contemplating this as Ideally I need F450 or 550 truck as well.
Basically worst case scenario you put new engine for $8-12K with 3 year unlimited mile warranty. All in you would be $24-28K most likely with brand new engine.
