Used 2003 Land Rover Discovery II for sale in Stephenville, TX

2003 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY II (not running). IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THESE VEHICLES PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

PRICE: $950 (PRETTY FIRM)

LOCATION: This vehicle is in Morgan Mill, TX (12 miles north of Stephenville, TX 76401). This is also the pick-up location. I live in Dallas (2 hours away).

This is a non-running 2003 Land Rover Discovery project with 101,000 miles. I have the title. 2003’s and 4’s had the cool headlights and are in demand to restore-they are the last of the series II years. These are luxury vehicles known for being off-road monsters. I’ve had 2 of these vehicles and have loved them.

This vehicle does not run. I bought it about a year ago from an off-road enthusiast who was going to restore it for his son and they got tied up on other projects (Jeep restoration) which is the exact same reason I am selling it. He had it for 3 years. We both bought it with good intentions and then let it sit. It was not running when he bought it. According to him, the previous owner had taken it to a shade tree mechanic because it wasn’t running well. The mechanic advised it was the crankshaft position sensor and he replaced it with a new one and the car still wouldn’t start. The guy I bought it from said he searched online and hit up some blogs to try to find out the issue based on the symptoms the previous owner told him (hard to start, stalling, check engine light, rough idle). He told me it is most likely the untrained mechanic installed the crankshaft position sensor incorrectly (it is very easy to switch the spacers). The shade tree mechanic pulled the ECU out too-it is attached to the vehicle by its harness-it is just hanging underneath the glove compartment. His story checks out as I actually found the blog he was on and asking questions on. I was about to replace this sensor and tore a rotator cuff and was out of commission for a year. I had gotten the exhaust pipe loose from the manifold and could see the sensor-it did appear to be attached incorrectly. So the vehicle comes with a new sensor. Since then I have bought a sand rail dune buggy that is consuming my time.

The vehicle has sat for 4 years. I drained the gas tank which was almost full. The gas was surprisingly clean-only smelled only a little stale. There was no gunk in the tank. The engine turns over easily. It will not come with a battery. The wheels are original. The tires have 90% of the tread. All the seats are in good condition for the age. All windows, seats, mirrors, and both sunroofs work as they are supposed to. I have the title and key. There is some hail damage and some of the plastic trim exterior pieces are broken. The vehicle comes with an extra front passenger door and some extra door gaskets. I really don’t want to sell it-I should part it out but don’t have time to do it. These are desirable and parted out would bring $2000 - $3000. The doors alone would get $600 minimum. I would hope someone would turn it into an off road beast.
