Used 2000 Toyota 4Runner - Solid Axle Swap - 5 Speed - Built - cars & for sale in Grandview, MO

Well It’s a sad time for me to put my baby up for sale, but life moves on and I haven’t wheeled this 4runner more than 5 times in the past decade. Up for grabs is my rare year 2000 4runner in Desert Dune Metallic in an ultra rare factory R-150 manual transmission trim (last year for a manual 4runner ever). This SR5 has been in my possession since High school, and has followed me all throughout my career. Once I became a father my priorities shifted from an overkill Overland vehicle built to tackle the “king of the hammers”, to something a little less extreme to keep my kids happy along the trail. When I say the this vehicle has been babied, I don’t need to assure you as everyone in my past has always given me a hard time about not pushing this vehicle to it’s true potential. According to the carfax this 4runner has been in my name for over 14 years, but I was also the owner before that as well. Thanks to a little goof at the DMV I actually licensed the vehicle to my mother and I. Hey you can’t blame me, I was barely 16 at the time!

Fast forward to today this vehicle has never seen the winter outside of when I was in college. During that time my wife can vouch that the 4runner was washed at least twice a week to ensure it never got rusty LOL. It’s spent most of it’s life in the garage and kept spotless clean. The vehicle has either been in the midwest, or Georgia while I relocated my family out there for a few years. The frame and suspension have all been disassembled and treated with POR-15 to keep things protected. This 4runner has never seen rust. This 4runner has never been painted on besides my Line-X treatment as well as frame treatments. All factory bodywork is ORIGINAL and untouched. No Accidents!

This vehicle is obviously not stock, as its rolling on a leaf spring suspension with 37” tires with 1-ton axles. Yes you read that correctly, ONE TON AXLES. Not only does it ride smoother than any 3rd Gen 4runner, it will also crawl over your buddies overland vehicles! You can hop in this Toyota and get groceries, and you can also drive across the country to hit the trail and back! This truck has never seen a trailer unless it was towing it LOL. Even with military inspired running gear, this 4runner gets 17+ MPG on the highway and turns heads everywhere you go. The 4runner drives just like factory with the same level of power, only turning 200 more RPM on the highway due to the Yukon 5.13 gears in both axles. For those 4runner gurus that are wondering how the speedo works as the rear axle ABS sensors are long gone, the speedometer now gets it signal and calibration through a OEM 2wd Tacoma VSS mounted in the factory Transfercase output housing. There is no abnormal lights on the dash and works 100% like Toyota intended and that accomplished through deleting the ABS module which the truck no longer uses as some of the Tacomas of this vintage came without ABS. Yes cruise control works as well LOL if you so desire to use it. It’s ready to be boosted with a TRD supercharger which can be included in the sale for an additional amount. I never installed it as the vehicle still drove great and just left the supercharger kit in my basement (Black Gen 2 body with TRD logo) Don’t be fooled, as this 4runner has a 3-link fully trussed ARTECH setup that has been at the ready for years, but the leafs out-flex most rigs on coilovers, as well as stay insanely durable and never need servicing outside of normal greasing during an oil change. I made sure this ride retained a great ride as I kept this as a daily driver for years until I got multiple vehicles in my fleet of old-school Toyota’s.

I will go through the major systems of the 4runner below in multiple itemized lists.

Engine Bay:
-Flex-a-lite fan system and variable speed controller which gets it’s temperature through a collar in the radiator top hose. The controller is wired hot at all times to pull the heat out of the cylinder head once the engine has been turned off to aid in heat-soak conditions.
-1-ton brake booster from a 2000 Tundra brand new
-1-ton master cylinder from a 1993 Diesel Dodge 3/4 ton (New part)
-Sky Manufacturing master cylinder billet adapter
-Wilwood Metering valves for both lines
-Tundra check valve in booster assembly hose
-AirRaid Jr intake hose
-TRD supercharger throttle body gasket
-OEM Timing belt assembly including all bearings and WP and Plugs with wires changed within 30K
-New OEM IAC
-New Denso A/C compressor replaced because of reed valves sticking from sitting. System did not need flushing as there was no debris. Also replaced the dryer
-Cadillac Fleetwood Brogham alternator for the Big-3 upgrade. 120amps at 1,200rpm
-Optima yellow top replaced in 2015
-T100 Oil pan conversion
-LED head light conversion in the stock housings (plug and play)
Exterior:
-TJM T-13 front Bumper Coated in Line-X (Only one in the country I’m aware of)
-Rigid E-series 24” LED Bar with hyper spot and driving combo (before they went Overseas)
-Rigid Radiance bars for Fogs and Turn signals
-OEM original non-flaking headlights (Good luck finding these!)
-Warn ZEON Platinum 10k Winch
-Factor 55 Fairlead offset for Aussie bullbars
-Factor 55 Flatlink E
-OEM Grill coated in Line-X
-OEM Sport hood in black. Paint is beat up but not rusty or dented. I just scored this hood last year and ran out of time to wrap it.
-Line-X runs throughout this build to keep the bodywork protected as well as add a nice two-tone look
-Tailgate air deflector coated in Line-X
-Rear tire carrier bumper made by ARMOROLOGY in Colorado Springs. Jed and I really loved how this turned out and has been a flawless bumper for over 10 years!
-Bearings and seals have been replaced in tire carrier and spindle modified to accept grease for ease of service
-Rear bumper also coated in Line-X to seal metal and powdercoat.
-Bottom lip of tailgate coated in Line-X to follow same body lines throughout the 4runner. Adds a nice durable touch for your hands so you don’t scratch the paint while closing the gate.
-Hatch bezel also coated in Line-X to keep with two tone paint style as well as add durability
-Emblems blacked out
-Fender flares sealed to body with Line-X so plastic does not vibrate and scratch paint or let dirt through
-Tacoma Whip mod to factory auto-up antenna
-Baja Rack cargo basket roof rack
-Trail-Gear sliders
-AVS Ventshades
-37” BFG All terrains with 90% tread
-Worx Wheels in 17” and positive offset to keep rubber somewhat inside the fenders
Interior:
-Leather OEM 4runner door panels with Line-X to mitigate scratches as well as ease of cleaning
-Sport/Highlander 4runner interior trim bezels all OEM
-Speakers in front are JL Audio C2650 components
-Speakers in rear are JL Audio Marine 8” Tower wakeboard speakers to get rid of the tiny stock units in the doors! It’s a PARTY ON WHEELS HAHAHAHAHA
-Rear JL Speakers hang from a 1st Gen 4runner rollbar bolted to the floor and gasketed so no noise/leaks/rattles while driving. It’s nice to have a little old-school throw back in the 3rd Gen, plus it make for a great place to mount a Powertank! Once again all of this with no rattles!
-Alpine single deck head unit with in-line Alpine amplifier to push all components without adding spliced wires and complexity everywhere. Its simple plug and play here!
-Alpine radio has a Thunderbolt cable coming out of the storage tray to plug your iPhone in to listen to music library (Like Spotify) while also charging your phone or whatever accessories
-Sirius Satellite piggyback system wired to Aux output of the radio so you can capture songs and save them as well as rewind live audio to never miss your sports while on the road or trail!
-Generic Mirror with matching LED’s so you now have outside temperature display as well as compass readings
-Weather tech mats throughout both seating rows and cargo area
-All plastic trim has not been drilled through and is in perfect condition. I do not like drilling accessories into trim as things change over time and you can’t take away drilled holes.
-CB radio is pre-wired under front seat and outboard Firestick antenna is tuned. The 4’ antenna has a quick connect located on the side of the hitch for ease of use/getting into a garage LOL

Steering/Suspension and Driveline:
-Custom SOLID-AXLE industries high clearence Housing with Chromoly Ford high pinion Dana 60 center and Chevy BILLET KINGPIN outers 72” WMS
-OEM late model 4runner steering gearbox for the faster gear ratio as well as ported for Hydro Assist if desired
-Crossover steering accomplished through 7/8 Heims throughout from QA1
-Customer steering shaft/mount by Front Range Offroad
-Ballistic Fabrication Dual Sheer Steering arms made for 5-stud Reid Racing Knuckles
-Reid Racing Knuckles for Chevy 1-ton
-MOSER Chromoly inner 35 spline axles
-MOSER Chromoly 35 spline outer axles
-Yukon massive Forged U-joints for the front axles
-Spintec Industries Chromoly Spindles and front end components for the knuckles in 8x6.5 bolt pattern
-Wilwood Billet 4-pot calipers and race pads
-All brake rotors are Cryo’d and drilled/slotted from Chromebrakes=NO RUST
-Crown Kevlar stainless brake lines throughout the truck front and rear
-OEM brake line from master cylinder to rear axle area to make sure there was no mushy pedal from excess stainless brake line length.
-Tilton adjustable proportioning valve at rear brake line to modulate pressure to the rear disk brakes
-ARB lockers in both front and rear axles for immediate locker engagement as well as open diffs for regular driving
-ARB compressor attached via ABS module bracket for seamless install and no drilled holes in bodywork
-Custom High Angle Driveline driveshafts made by Jesse that are C/V style front and rear
-Pinion yokes from High and Driveline that retain factory Toyota flanges and negate the weaker u-bolt style found in heavy trucks. Super easy to service and ensure they stay tight and don’t suffer trail damage from rocks.
-WFO diff covers in aluminum that are clearanced to not hang down form the shaved diffs. Also have magnets in diff plugs as well being large to inspect ring gear
-7 degrees caster built into front axle to negate the use of a steering stabilizer and aid in return-to-center. This 4runner has NO DEATH WOBBLE without a steering stabilizer!
-All suspension bolts gun drilled with Zerks and poly bushings to be greasable and there are NO SQUEAKS!
-All leaf springs have poly bushings installed
-Front leafs are a Hybrid All-pro offroad 3” pack
-Rear leafs are a true Chevy 63” spring with thinner leafs and no overloads. Great load carrying capabilities as well as great flex. Will not invert at full bump stop engagement
-Front shocks are generic BDS shocks for a lifted Ford Superduty. I was going to change these to a KING Coilover setup, but work great. Once again the theme of this build is simple and effective
-Rear shocks are a 2.5” KING 14” Smoothy with adjustable compression through the remote piggyback reservoirs custom made from Filthy Motorsports
-rear bump stops are Daystar units which thread into their buckets on the trussed frame rails. These have the softer compound “Blue” s in them.
-Rear shocks are outboard of the frame so they are essentially vertical and have amazing travel.
-All suspension and shock mounts are made from 1/4” steel and are trussed or braced in some way
-Front and rear frame rails have been “fish plated” to ensure that the boxed frame from Toyota is very strong, but also can accommodate future mods including coilovers up front as well as a Linked suspension if desired.
-Transmission crossmember is a 3/8” thick unit from Trail-Gear the is easily unbolted to service anything. This mount can also accommodate running DUAL T-CASES if you would so desire!
-Transmission mount is a polyurethane unit from Marlin Crawler
-Marlin Crawler Poly shifter bushings used throughout transmission and transfer case
Did I go completely overkill on the axles, a resounding YES! The thought behind this was I wanted an overbuilt overland rig that you can service anywhere across the country with over-the-counter parts from any auto parts store as the bearings/seals are always easily attainable. These axles can be serviced with basic hand tools just in case you have an issue out on the trail. Back in the day most guys who SAS’d a Toyota late model would use a Wagoneer dana 44 and I never liked that those axles were basically weaker than a Toyota Birfield style axle and parts are much harder to find/service as there are so many variants. Ball joints suck to replace and kingpins are a breeze to service and repair and are MUCH MUCH STRONGER! It’s worth noting that this example was the second 3rd Gen 4runner to be SAS’d and has held up to the test of time! Before this sale the front axle was completely gone through and serviced as well as bearings were re-packed and seals were replaced just for peace of mind. The rear axle is out of an 03 Silverado 3500HD which makes it a factory disk brake setup as well as being a traditional corporate 14-bolt style center section. These rear bearings are once again super easy to service as well as replace if you so wish to.
