Vehicle Description

For BMW-lovers and/or collectors...

Here is a machine that runs well, that just had a lot of work put into it, and that only needs a front end alignment and trail arm bushings (if you don't care much about cosmetics). The good news is that there are even some new trail arm bushings that I can give to you! And I just replaced the windshield and the hood (the hood needs paint, however).

Also, I noticed that the the odometer doesn't always work.

It was bought by a BMW-enthusiast who put a lot of love into it. Then he gifted it to me at the same time that I bought another car (a 2001 Buick Century). He told me to drive both cars before deciding on which one to keep.

I was hoping to keep the BMW, but I opted for the Buick b/c it performed better on Michigan roads in the winter, and I needed a car to commute back and forth to Grand Rapids in all-seasons.

Now if you want to get really excited about this machine, I'm going to paste my entire text history from the BMW-enthusiast (P.K.). It starts from when P.K. had a mechanic look over all his work.

[NOTE: Since many of the issues he mentions have since been taken care of, I'll make note of it in the text history itself. Also, at the end of this post, you can copy and paste the link provided to watch a short 57 sec. video of the BMW 318i]

1. [P.K.] "...I had them look over all my personal work to make sure it was all safe, and they said I did a great job and that the front end is perfectly roadworthy."

2. [P.K.] "I need to replace the rear shocks and struts, valve cover gasket, and replace the muffler [NOTE: this was done]

3. [P.K] "I’ve driven it and believe it’s very sound."

4. [P.K.] "I have the 318 purring like a kitten."

5. [P.K.] "I’m only waiting for exhaust bolts and I need to bleed the brakes, and then to flush the transmission, oil, and coolant." [NOTE: This is done]

6. [P.K.] "This car really seems like a beauty. I’ve had the engine stripped down, and it’s super clean. It has a lot of miles, but I’m really feeling this car. I’ve replaced all the worn suspension components, a brake line, all four brake rotors and pads, two calipers (the front), sole gaskets and seals in the engine, sealed all leaks on the intake stream, fixed the headlights, new fog lights, fixed a little on the interior, and general major scrub down."

7. [P.K.] "I’m also going to have...an alignment done. It has a lot of miles, but I really think this is a quality machine."

8. [P.K.] "Now it LACKS aesthetical value. The exterior has some issues (a little rust, though nothing critical), but the paint isn’t in great condition and some previous owner vinyl wrapped the hood, roof, and truck, and it’s peeling. Basically: it LOOKS like a beater. But it’s not a beater: it really is a sound car. I’d trust it to haul my kids, and I plan on putting it through the paces when I get the tires back on."

9. [P.K.] "It ALSO LACKS interior quality. Now it’s not as bad as I thought before a cleaning. But it’s a 1995 with 241k miles, and the driver’s seat has a few rips, and the hood lining is held by tacks in the back, and there’s a panel in the front that controls the sun roof (which works!) which looks rough

10. [P.K.] "Now, there is a list of things I’d reeeeeeeaaaaaallly like to do if I had another grand to put into the pup:
- replace all suspension bushings ($700 in parts - $1000 in labor, but free to do it myself)
- fix the steering wheel box (it works just fine, but the steering wheel is tilted a little even when you’re driving straight) [NOTE: This has been repaired]
- new coil pack and spark plug wires ($240)
- new headlights ($150- But much safer to have modern headlights)

11. [P.K.] "I will tell you that I’ve really fallen in love with the car (the e36 BMW 3 series is known to be iconic and built of quality exclusive to yesteryear), and I *would drive it* personally as a daily driver. But, I’m not an aesthetics guy. "

12. [P.K.] "I’m waiting for exhaust bolts. (I’m also redoing the exhaust). That means it might not be ready for you to check out for another week ." [NOTE: This is done.]

13. [P.K.] "]The car is running very, very well."

14. [P.K.] "I’ve driven it about 200 miles, and have had it up to 110mph
However, the front wheels shake a bit- it needs ball joints, control arms, and tie rods" [NOTE: ball joints, control arm, and tie rods are all replaced with new]

15. [P.K.] "I’m going to put quite a few miles on it to make sure everything is kosher, but it’s getting there! I think it’s a very fine car for what it is"

I recorded a short video so you could see the entire exterior of the vehicle:
