Here goes: this is a 1994 Chevrolet G20 Santa Fe conversion van that has been converted to a camper van. It has 184,250 miles on.
This van has more new or newish parts than I can remember, but I’ll try. The 5.7, 350 was rebuilt in the fall of 2019 after overheating at 143,000 miles. At the time of the rebuild, the air conditioning system was also rebuilt. A new radiator was installed, along with an after market electric radiator fan system. It also got a new water pump. The front brakes were also done at that time.
Around 6 months ago, I dropped the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump and sending unit. within the last month I’ve replaced the front brake pads as well as the battery. At the recommendation of my mechanic, I religiously change the oil every 3000 miles with 10w30 conventional. The rear tires are good and the fronts are fair.
The van is equipped with an aftermarket towing system including a brake controller and 7 pin electrical connector. I haven’t done much towing, but did move a 3000lb RV a couple times and it towed it well.
The camper conversion involved removing the back bench seat and building a wall in the back of the van as well as a bed. The bed is hinged and the top lifts up for easy access to the storage underneath. The storage is also accessible from the front of the bed as well. The wall is insulated and has a 5000 btu air conditioner mounted in it. The AC is plugged into a 15 amp wall outlet installed in the wall of the van which is wired to a 15 amp service mounted to the side of the van. This can be powered by an extension cord, or by the 2000 watt champion generator that is also included with the van. The generator is mounted with a lowpro lockdown locking system ( which can be attached and locked to whatever area you choose.
The storage area in the back of the van is very convenient and can hold tools, the generator, the spare tire (I also have the rear door mount for the spare) and lots more.
The rear windows which are blacked out can be opened while the AC is running and the fan in the back window can be turned on to circulate out the hot air from the AC. There is also a small bucket back there to catch condensation from the AC.
I installed blackout curtains behind the captains chair which are very effective in blocking light from the cab. I also made shades for all the rear windows out of reflectix with black felt on the window side. These increase the stealth capability of the van and also block out all the light from the back windows.
There is a small TV/DVD player mounted to the trim in the back on a swiveling Mount. I’m not sure if the tv still works, I haven’t used it in a couple years.
This van has some small issues, but was my daily driver for many years and I would happily and confidently get in it today and drive it cross country, which I have done many times. It would be a great van to full time, travel in and just enjoy vanlife. It’s an excellent covert camper for urban camping and doesn’t stand out as a camper van.
