Used 1991 Mazda Miata Special Edition, 5-speed w/all original for sale in Ventura, CA

1991 Mazda Miata SE in British racing green with tan leather interior, 5 speed transmission, factory hardtop and all original factory accessories. This is the first year Mazda introduced the Special Edition of the Miata, limited to 4000, and this car is the 5th to roll off the production line. A very special roadster that has been well cared and never modified.

I’m the third owner of this Miata and was purchased in 2016 from the 2nd owner in Dallas, Texas. First owner was also in Dallas so this car has never seen snow. Previous owner kept extensive records, usually parked in garage and still had all the original accessories and window sticker.

Under my ownership I’ve done my best to keep the car in very good daily driver shape, addressing any issues before they became problems and fixing many small age related items. I drove the car as a 1/4 time daily driver around LA and it was garaged about half the time.

I just lost my garage space so I’m sad to say the Miata needs to sell to a new owner who can take care of it.

Runs and drives great, no issues.
Exterior Condition: 7/10
- this is a daily driver and over 30 years old so there are small nicks and scratches throughout. No major problems but definitely not a showroom car.
Interior Condition: 8.5/10
- interior is in really good shape for the age.
Major maintence and upgrades under my ownership:
All work was completely by noteworthy Miata mechanics or reputable installers, most receipts included in sale:
- New tires as of May 2021
- New Robbins soft-top in the original block w/ vinyl zip open window.
- New alternator (a new factory alternator was used, not a refurbished unit)
- New factory cruise control module
- New factory airbag module (this was a new unit from Mazda, so it should not have any burn out issues anytime soon)
- New factory correct headrest speakers
- New shortie radio antenna
- New Kenwood double din high end car stereo head unit with CarPlay
- New high end car speakers in doors
- New factory Mazda JDM dash trim. (This is needed to covert the original radio to a US din sizing)
- Alarm w/ keyless entry and trunk unlock (this early model Miata does not have the trunk latch switch inside so having a remote to pop the trunk is very helpful)
- New battery
- New CA state catalytic converter
- New factory dash gauge trim (Original plastic trim started to have “sticky dash syndrome” which is a common problem)
- New period correct factory Mazda keys
- Driver and passenger window tracks recently greased, power windows work perfectly
Known issues:
- Slight tear in driver’s seat bolster seam, about 4 inches.
- Dash is a bit dried out and fade but really not bad at all.
- AC likely needs to be recharged. AC compressor runs but haven’t recharged so currently does not blow cold.
- Brake pads will need to be done in the near future, still OK.
- Small chip in windshield but has been treated to stop any growth.
