Vehicle Description
My wife & I have had some great times in this van around the US West, but the arrival of our tiny human and my primary use of the van for touring around to art festivals has changed my expectations & requirements for a vehicle.
Gertie is a great van with some obvious body wear & tear, but in great mechanical shape.
You could drive her away today & go out camping in the woods or out at the coast.
I am the 3rd owner, and the first owner out of the dry SW.
There are about 230k miles on the body and about 60k miles on both the Ford Zetec engine & rebuilt transmission.
The odometer has been broken for about 2 years, so those are estimates, but I haven’t put many miles on the van in the 6 years I’ve owned it.
In this moment the rust is all still superficial, but I'm sure the next owner will want to give a little attention to the body.
The Good:
- Bostig Zetec Conversion with 60k miles on it ( ~$7500 cost + finding an engine & installing it OR ~$15000 to have one installed )
- 2.5L Zetec Engine (faster highway speeds, more power on grade and easily found parts)

- Extended Oil Pan on the Zetec Engine
- Newly Enameled Roof (2019)
- Clutch & Slave Cylinder (late 2019)
- Clutch Master Cylinder (2021)
- Fuel Tank & Lines (2018)
- All sorts of new parts from diagnosing issues on the road: fuel pump, ignition coil, plugs, ignition switch, starter battery.
- Solar setup (a bit outdated, but the bones are there and it works)
- House battery and dedicated RV battery for a high-efficiency refrigerator (not included)
- Pop up canvas is in good shape and is maybe getting towards 8 years old
- Lifted with R15 Off-Road Tires
- Custom Heavy Steel Bumpers
- Custom Front Rack
- Decent Stereo Setup
- Shady Boy Awning over sliding door
- Front Passenger Captain’s Chair (swivels around)
- Bilstein Shocks in rear
The Bad:
- Salvage Title from wreck in ~2013
- Rebuilt Front Driver Side - I’m not savvy to the extent of this rebuild, but you can see it in the paint on that front-driver corner. There was no damage to the alignment / straightness of the chassis.
- Various bumps & bruises from good times out in the wild.
- Inside is well-used but has worked great for us! It's 40 years old, but everything works.
