Used 1975 Ford Maverick. 33k miles, near perfect for sale in Columbia, MO
Vehicle Description
I am the second owner, my grandfather purchased it new. It has been garaged since new. It has the original owner's manual, and bill of sale. It has original 'Maverick' branded floormats, the carpet has not yet had a shoe sole on it. The back seats have never had a passenger sit on them.
There have been a couple of practicality modifications that are reversible if you want perfect originality. 1975 was part of the initial air pollution changes, and the carburetors had an electric choke that malfunctioned more than it worked. I added a manual cable under the dash (using an original screw, no new holes) for the choke.
An original smog pump/air pump was removed that did not do much beyond suck a little power from the engine. It is in the trunk and could easily be replaced.
This is an early unleaded gas car, and it's catalytic converter plugged up. I had a 'test pipe' installed, which is legal for cars manufactured before the early 80's. The car runs well, and is quite snappy for a straight 6 with a 2bbl carb.
What's wrong with it? Not much.
It has original shocks, that are mushy and should probably be replaced.
The original keyswitch failed on the 'start' position. I kept the factory keyswitch in place, and added a pushbutton under the dash for 'start'. It works fine.
It has factory AC, but the York compressor clutch locked up and I did not replace it.
There is a small U-shaped crack in the windshield, that goes down 5 inches (about to the bottom of the rear-view mirror), and has completely stopped changing (see pics). It is not in the driver's line of sight at all, and should pass inspection. A car like this should have historic plates anyway, where you don't need an inspection.
The rear driver side door is reluctant to open (often does, sometimes won't), nor roll the window down. The gasket around the outside window glass has shrunken, and moisture has probably gotten in there, and gummed things up (the other three are fine). The proper fix is to take the inside door panel off, and clean/lube the mechanisms. I know that this era of Fords have plastic gears on the window riser mechanism. Forcing it with the inside crank will probably have you searching for new plastic gears (ask me how I know that one!).
It is not currently licensed, but available for test driving in the Columbia area.
Drive it home, it is completely road-worthy. $7000 firm, no trades, no, I won't take less. I will accept Bitcoin, based on the price the day you take delivery.
EDIT: In response to a question, the tires and battery are one month old.
