I bought this car about a year and a half ago after searching for one for 25 years. My first car was a '66 Special over half a lifetime ago (last pic was circa 1991), and I haven't really been the same since losing it due to circumstances in 1994 (broke military E3 with a blown engine and about to change duty stations). I have been gathering parts to rebuild this one, maybe clone my first, but I'm realizing now that I just have too many projects and not enough time or money. I'd rather see it back on the road than sitting in my driveway going to rust. Maybe someday when my situation improves I'll find another. Maybe not.
I've purchased a new tulip panel, new rear window, new rear quarter window seals, nice dash pad, disc brake conversion, and repair sections for the rear quarter corners behind the wheel wells. I've never tried to start the 300 under the hood. I was planning to run the 1971/1972 Buick 350 out of a GS I've got if I ever got around to starting on it, but that's probably going into my son's '53 instead. There is rust, there are dents, the rear bumper is kinda rough. I bought it from a car salesman in South Carolina but according to the paperwork it was last registered and tagged in NC. I have a Bill of Sale, which was all I got with the car, but never titled it myself because I bought it non-running. You'll also need to bring a set of wheels to put on it since the wheels it's sitting on are on loan and not mine to sell.
The '65-67 GM A-bodies are getting really hard to find, especially in two-door coupes. The Skylark/Special shares a lot of parts with the more common A-bodies (Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass), so parts are pretty easily found, either original or repopped. I'm just realizing I've got too much else that needs attention before I could even consider building this car.
