1965 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible, 400, 4spd – SUPER RARE!

Some technical highlights:
· 400 CID V8, 345 HP @ 4800 RPM, 10.25:1 Compression Ratio, 440 lb-ft Torque @ 3200 RPM (the engine was rebuilt in 1987 with a 0.030" overbore & a mild cam but otherwise remains stock). Believed to be the original engine.

How about this >> this '65 442 convertible is one of only 1,695 four-speed convertibles built in all plants for the 1965 model year – how many do you think are left? The car was assembled in the Fremont, CA plant and purchased new by a woman in California who sold it to her brother a year later. He kept it for 30 years until he retired to Oregon in 1995 and sold it to someone in Massachusetts before the current owner purchased it in 2000. According to the cowl plate, the car was born Target Red with a white interior and white top. The car was cosmetically re-done in 2001/02. It was stripped to bare metal, restored and repainted in the original Target Red.

The car exhibits ZERO rust mainly since this remained a west coast car for the first 30 years of its life then came east. Since on the “right” coast it was never used as a daily driver, only as fair-weather driver with top down enjoyment. The body panels are straight as evidence in the photos, the paint is a single stage acrylic and is flat and has a nice shine. I would give it a good clay-bar/polish/wax to really make it pop! The power top operates nicely and has no leaks. The owner puts a cushion on the plastic window when the roof is folded down so as not to crease the plastic. A matching white tonneau cover fits nicely over the roof when it’s down giving it a nice “cruiser” look. The white bucket seat interior is 100%, well appointed with a floor console and vacuum gauge. There is a period correct SUN tachometer mounted on the steering column to keep the revs in check. The car runs and drives well, it does “seep” some oil on the floor when placed in the garage over the winter. Remember this car was built to be driven and it can be driven anywhere. The owner has a place 3 hours away in Maine, this car makes that trip effortlessly. The power steering makes this car FUN to drive and row thru the gears, she scoots when he fun pedal is pushed – ah the good old 60’s when men were men and cars had three pedals and four gears… this car must be seen and driven. The owner is getting a little to old to maintain his cars, so this is one that must go. We’re looking for its next curator – is it you?
