Used 1962 Chevy Impala SS 409, Original Owner for sale in Minneapolis, MN

I am selling this vehicle for my Dad. He bought it brand new in 1962 and has been the only owner of this vehicle. Red exterior, red interior. This is all original (numbers matching) and has had a frame off restoration in 2001. This is in excellent condition. It has a 409/409hp ("QB" stamped) engine and also has a spare engine which is installed in it currently (1963 409/340hp). 39,000 miles...yes that is correct...very low miles (that is on the original engine/body).

4 speed manual transmission, 4.56 ratio positraction (this was a special order option that the general public could not order but my Grandpa had a friend that worked at the Merit Chevrolet dealership in St. Paul that allowed my Dad to get it this way). My Dad had ordered this for racing 1/4 mile). The original engine is bored .030 over.

This 1962 car and engine combination is the exact song the Beach Boys sang about...She's real fine my 409...my four speed, dual quad, positraction 409!!!

It has won several awards at car shows over the years. But now the car is ready to find a new home.

Additional notes when answering some previous questions:
I have a box of notes on all that was ever done to the car along with of pics of the restoration, etc. We still have the window sticker and purchase transaction information as well. Again we are the originals owners of the vehicle...that is a bit rare these days for sure. Honestly I don't know why I don't keep it. I was born in 1967 and this car has always been a part of our family. I think its time for someone else to really treasure this. I remember my mom taking me and my brother on grocery runs in it and I just loved the rumble and everyone would look at us. Good stuff. Maybe its your turn now.

The original engine is complete but disassembled. We have the block, heads, pistons, crank, cam (with lifters and springs installed), intake manifold with both carbs. Along with timing chains, etc. Its all there. The original engine block was just cleaned and magnafluxed and the heads pressure tested/valves were vacuum tested by a local engine specialist. I can send you pics on all or some of the parts.

The reason for the swap is that roughly in 1963 my Dad did a .030 bore, put a wilder cam in (I do not know the lift or duration...but its in the documents), put headers on, put larger pistons in (to fit the new bore (a side note on this...we no longer have the original pistons...but do have the larger bore pistons...but you may want to put new ones in...). Basically at the time purchase, my Dad ordered this with all the things you could legally buy and did additional work (the bore) to get the highest performance he could get out of the vehicle and still run it on the street/strip. So this was a true muscle car. My Dad was a mechanical engineer so all of the work he did himself and has the documents/measurements. Quite a bit of data has been collected over the years (lobe and lift measurements on the 340hp 409...just to show you how detailed he was).

So fast forward 20 some years (the car did sit in storage several years at a time, but yearly we would turn it over and take it for a quick ride or two)...my Dad wanted to just take rides to the local car shows, but the engine was a bit too wild and he had a hard time finding high octane gas near New Brighton, MN back then. So he wanted a milder engine that could run on pump gas that was readily available. Thus the reason for the engine swap. So he bought a 1963 409 w/340hp that could run on standard gasoline and rebuilt that himself. It is a single quad intake. The engine that is installed has probably less than 2,000 miles on it. This install was done at the time of the body restoration as well. It no longer has headers but has the standard original exhaust manifolds. But it does still have a great rumble (note the YouTube video below).

Our thought is that someone would want to rebuild the original 409 but may want the higher performance parts, but then again someone may just want the original cam, etc. If the original engine was rebuilt and installed, one could sell the currently installed 340hp 409 engine for $6,000 to $8,000+ just by itself.

The reason we don't do the rebuild ourselves is my Dad is getting up there in years and we just can't take the job on ourselves.
