I’m selling a 1998 Toyota Camry LE with a V6 engine with 160,000 miles (but it’s young at heart!).
I love this car, but on my last tune-up the mechanics found too many problems for me to keep it. Engine is mostly good except for a faulty O2 sensor and a cracked serpentine belt, but the lower control rod bushings are the issue that makes the car no longer safe to drive at highway speeds. Check engine light came back on after the pictures were taken, which I believe is the O2 sensor (the light got reset after the last check-up).
What’s wrong:
*Lower control rod bushings are worn off.
**This is the issue the mechanic was most concerned about. NOT RECOMMENDED TO TAKE THIS CAR TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS UNLESS THIS GETS FIXED.
**The steering gets a bit squeaky because of this.
*The oxygen sensor needs to be replaced. (Not sure why this is needed, oxygen is everywhere, I could tell you that.)
*The suspension is mostly shot. It still drives fine with a light load and 2-3 passengers, but if you put too many watermelons in the back seat (more than your typical 30) the suspension may bottom out if you hit a speed bump.
*The serpentine belt is cracked. It has been functioning just fine for the last 3 years or so after discovering this, but it squeaks a little on startup.
*There’s a crack in the rear passenger taillight that gets water in it when it rains. Mechanics said the housing needs to be replaced. I said we should put some nice succulents in there to make a little garden. They disagreed.
*The dash lights (A/C, radio, etc.) aren’t functioning. Probably a short in the fuse box. The A/C, heater, and radio all function, but the indicator lights for the buttons don’t turn on. Totally fine unless you need to turn the heater on in the dark.
*The air blower is stuck on the Face/Feet setting, but come on, how often do you change that?
*The button for the rear window heater is conveniently located inside the dash.
*Lost a hubcap in a knife fight (but you should’ve seen the other car).
*A white streak on the front bumper from a fence that jumped from out of nowhere. Looks cool, gives it character. Should probably move this to the “What’s good” section.
*Some stain on the rear passenger’s floor. Coffee? I think? Previous owner’s fault, don’t look at me. I always use a sippy cup.
What’s good:
*New battery (<5 months old).
*No major accidents.
*No water/fire damage.
*160,000 miles. More is better, right?
*Car has 4 wheels (5 if you count the spare).
*Steering wheel goes both clockwise and counterclockwise.
*Has a transmission.
*Engine both turns on and off.
*Car moves forward and reverse.
*Can see through the windows (I’m not even charging extra for that).
*Certified chick magnet. My wife attests.
